3 Main Steps of the Procedure

  1. Wire placement

    13.5 Fr guide catheter is positioned in the left ventricle and two wires are placed in the mitral annulus.

  2. Pledget delivery

    Two pledgets are delivered to the annulus over the wire.

  3. Plication and lock

    The pledgets are plicated (pulled together) and locked in place.

The procedure uses fluoroscopy for guidance. 2D and 3D transesophageal echocardiography are used to confirm position.

Rick Geoffrion

President & Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Geoffrion has over 25 years of management experience in the medical device industry and more than 20 years in the cardiovascular space. A co-founder of Mitralign, he previously led company foundation, deal structuring and served as the early stage CEO for five other medical device companies. In addition, he guided the recapitalization and redirection of two other successful medical device companies. Mr. Geoffrion currently sits on the board of directors of CircuLite, Inc and Mitralign, Inc. He has also served as the Chairman of Impella CardioSystems AG, CircuLite and FlowMedica, Inc. He holds a MSME and an MBA from the University of Connecticut.

Adam Groothuis, Ph.D.

Vice President, Medical Affairs

Dr. Groothuis brings a wealth of experience to Mitralign. Prior to joining Mitralign, he was the VP and COO at CBSET, where he was responsible for research in cardiovascular devices. Previously, he was Associate Director of the Experimental Cardiovascular Interventional Laboratories at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He was also a Research Associate in the Harvard-M.I.T. Division of Health Sciences and Technology. Dr. Groothuis has authored numerous journal articles in the area of cardiovascular diseases. He received his BS from the University of California, Irvine, MS from Georgetown University, MBA from Salem State University and his Ph.D from Southern New Hampshire University.

Kimberlie O’Connell

Director, Regulatory & Clinical Affairs

Ms. O’Connell has over 15 years of regulatory and clinical affairs knowledge. Twelve of those years are specific to the cardiovascular space.

Most recently, she was Senior Clinical Research Manager in the Endovascular Therapies business at Medtronic. Prior to her clinical affairs work, she also held several roles in Medtronic’s regulatory affairs group. Ms. O’Connell has a BS in Biotechnology from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, an MS in Drug Regulatory Affairs & Health Policy from Mass. College of Pharmacy and an MBA from Endicott College Van Loan School of Management.

Steven D. Cahalane

Vice President, Research & Development

Mr. Cahalane has spent over 20 years in product development, operations and quality management in the medical device industry.

Prior to joining Mitralign, he worked in R&D and Operations management at Percardia Inc. Before that he worked in Operations and Quality Assurance management at Boston Scientific as well as quality engineering at Bard. He has a BS in Plastics Engineering from the University of Lowell.

David R. Schleifer

Director, Marketing

Mr. Schleifer has over 16 years experience in the medical device, biotech and pharmaceutical industry. Prior to joining Mitralign, he held several key positions in management for Boston Scientific Corporation. During his eight-year tenure at BSC, he was responsible for business planning, product positioning and messaging, integrated channel management, competitive strategies and KOL management.

Mr. Schleifer also has experience managing and monitoring Phase II-IV clinical trials for major pharmaceutical products and medical devices. Mr. Schleifer received his BA in Psychology from Kenyon College and holds an MBA from Babson College.

Christopher Lee

Director, Research & Development

Mr. Lee has over 20 years of experience in development and manufacturing of medical devices. Prior to joining Mitralign, he was with LightLab Imaging, now part of St. Jude Medical. Mr. Lee has held product development leadership roles at Surgivision, GMP Companies, C.R. Bard/AVE and Medtronic. He has a BS cum laude in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University.
